Smells like burning rubber?

Okay... bear with me.. this is the first wheel burner I've had in 20 years. :)

I know it's PROBABLY my tires but I wanted to make sure that's even possible because I don't smell it until I've let off the throttle and I'm coasting back down from 70'ish mph...

Here's what's going on.
I'm getting a Solomon Tune (rock on, this guy is great to deal with!) and getting some WOT datalogs. I'll pull out on the main road, punch it and hold on. It doesn't feel like the car is going up in smoke. It pulls hard and I can feel it break 2nd just a little bit and I don't hear any squalling of tires but when I top out 2nd and let off, I can smell some burnt rubber. Is it possible that I'm actually lighting up the back tires more than I realized and it's wafting into the car and I really don't smell it for 6 or 7 seconds?

My concern was maybe a belt was slipping or a hose was rubbing against a pulley or something.. It's hard for me to believe that any burnt tire smell would enter the car like that, well after a hard take-off.. I checked under the hood and the belt looks fine and tight and no hoses are anywhere near pulleys nor could they flex that far....

I just had to ask.

If it IS the tires... WOO HOO! :) Yay Torque.

the belt could slip a little even if it looks tight. i would look for glazing or anything like that....its very unlikely you would smell it if your moving at WOT

"it" being the tires? or a slipping belt?

I'll look for glazing on the belt... I felt it today after getting home and it seemed normal and it didn't look out of sorts, but I'll check again.

My tensioner is pretty strong and I can't imagine it'd be slipping and I can't imagine any of my accessories dragging enough to slip it, but I'll give it another look.

try popping the hood and sniffing around as soon as you make one of these WOT runs. try and find where the smell is coming from. stick your head under the car and smell down there too. i doubt its the tires you are smelling. the reason I was asking if you were auto or manual is because sometimes burning clutch can smell a little like burning tires.

Yeah, I'll just have to check it quicker..

heh.. I've smelled slipping clutches that reminded me of burnt chicken.

Yeah, I would imagine it would be unlikely..

I did, however, go back to a spot where I had made a WOT run and saw two very distinct black strips running about 80' down the road... whoops. :)

Which makes me wonder if a little of that isn't wafting in through the hole in my hatch where the "trap door" fuel pump hole resides.
